Term Limits Are Needed in Congress

"Politics is a jungle thorn between doing the right thing and staying in office" (President John F. Kennedy). Becoming an elected member of Congress was never meant to be a career, it was meant to be an office you held for a short period to be a voice for your constituents. Currently, being an elected member of Congress is not about what you can do for your constituents, it's about how you can get reelected every two years. Politicians making a career out of Congress have created corruption and halted younger people from assuming office to bring fresh ideas. Just this year, Texas Representative Kay Granger was placed in an assisted living facility while continuing to be a member of Congress at the age of 81. It is time for term limits to be imposed upon members of Congress to slow down corruption in government and bring in newcomers with fresh ideas.
For far too long, Congress members have cared more about getting reelected than creating policies that will better the United States. Imposing term limits would end members of Congress trying to grab onto power for as long as possible. Nancy Pelosi has been a US House of Representatives member since 1987. Senator Mitch McConnell has been in office since 1985. These are just two examples of many politicians who have successfully held onto power for decades and haven't allowed a new generation of thinkers to tackle the issues the nation faces. Many of these career politicians have mysteriously amassed large sums of money while sitting in Congress for many years fueling discussion of corruption. Term limits would make it harder for members of Congress to find money through the stock market or deals mysteriously. The age of making a career out of Congress must end soon to ensure that corruption can be slowed down and fresh ideas can be brought to the government.
